I came across this photo in my old camera. It’s of a cat curled around a rose bush. It probably hurts a little bit to be curled around a rose bush. The cat stays anyway. It has made the best of the situation. Looking at her surroundings, she decided that it was better to be curled around a rose bush than anywhere else she could find.
It demonstrates the dynamic of bonding with ones abuser. The abuse is hurtful. Traumatic. But it’s the only option the child sees.
A part of me looks at this picture and says “I bet that dirt is warm”. Not “I bet that rose bush has sharp thorns”.
